Who We Are

Our Mission

Our mission is to uplift the lives of orphaned and vulnerable children, offering them a brighter future through education, guidance, healthcare, and love. Every child has the potential to become a leader of tomorrow, and by investing in their wellbeing today we are helping to shape stronger communities for the future.

Our work extends beyond caring for children. Through education, scholarships, healthcare initiatives, sustainable agriculture, ICT development, community infrastructure, and local employment, we are committed to building self-sustaining communities that can prosper for generations to come.

We welcome partnerships with individuals, businesses, and organisations who share our vision of creating opportunities, strengthening communities, and building a brighter future for Tanzania’s children.

Since 2006

Our Story

In 2006, Irish teacher and humanitarian Louise Quill travelled to Tanzania, where she witnessed first-hand the challenges facing many vulnerable children. Meeting children who had been orphaned, abandoned, or unable to access education inspired a vision that would change countless lives.

Determined to create a brighter future for these children, Louise founded the Tír na nÓg Children’s Foundation. What began as a dream to provide a safe and loving home quickly grew into a wider mission of education, healthcare, community development, and sustainable change.

Over the years, Tír na nÓg has expanded its impact beyond individual children to support entire communities through education, sustainable farming, ICT development, healthcare programmes, and employment opportunities.

Today, the Foundation continues to grow, guided by the same vision that inspired its creation: to transform lives through compassion, opportunity, and education, changing one child’s life at a time.

What We Do

Our Pillars

Four pillars guide everything we do.

Home

In the Kilimanjaro region alone, an estimated 90,000 children have been orphaned. Working closely with social welfare services, child protection teams, and local authorities, we provide a safe and nurturing home for children with nowhere else to turn, and support family tracing and reunification where it is safe and appropriate.

Education

Education is the passport out of poverty. Our Kao La Amani Pre and Primary School educates up to 400 children aged 3 to 13, with two hot meals a day and a school bus service, while our Scholarship Programme supports students through secondary school, college, and university.

Health

Every child has the right not only to survive but to thrive. We provide nutritious meals, medical treatment, vaccinations, and ongoing health monitoring, support children with disabilities with life-changing surgeries and mobility aids, and run a Dental Outreach Programme from our on-site clinic in partnership with 3Dental.

Agriculture & Sustainability

Our farms produce maize, sunflowers, vegetables, and fruit that feed the children in our care, while hundreds of planted trees, beekeeping, boreholes, and water filtration systems protect the environment, create employment, and teach children practical skills in sustainable food production.
